CANDY

Making Divinity with Mom

This year I have really been thinking about Christmases from years ago and all of my family members who are no longer with us. I love traditions because many times that is what ties us to our past and brings back all those great memories. As a baker, and someone who loves to create desserts and special cakes, I have a lot of fond memories of family favorite foods. My grandfather and some of my Uncles had bakeries and donut shops and I do have a few of their recipes (but the quantities are much larger than I can make in my kitchen!).

One special recipe that my Grandmother used to make when my mother was a young girl was Divinity. It is a light, airy cloud like dessert. My Mom has made this every Christmas for as long as I can remember! She came up with a variation of it smoothed out in a rectangular shape and spread with peanut butter, rolled up and sliced that is my favorite version of this candy. She made some for me last year, and just when I was ready to make a request for another batch this year, I thought- “I really need to learn how to make this”. I asked her if she could show me and the result is in the video below.

We had a lot of fun cooking and reminiscing about Christmases past. Christmas is love -and the best part is spending some quality time with your loved ones creating new memories and new traditions.
